We did not all start together, nor did we all finish together; but for a time we worked together.

What's Happening?

Denise Byrne (nee Bell): Well, what can I say?! I left school early to find work, I started working in the copying office in UCD and then onto the Student Union shop which I now co manage with my sister, Attracta. I live in Kilcoole with my husband Paul and have three beautiful children..Gary, Darren and Jade. I also run a very successful company with my husband. I would love to hear from everyone in my year;I think!!! [Nov. '05]

Kevin Bowen: Greetings.I went straight to The College of Marketing and Design to study Environmental Design. After I graduated, I held various jobs in the design industry, and ended up working freelance for the past 10 yrs. or so, as a commercial interiors designer, working on various pubs/restaurants/nightclubs etc.

During that time, I got a private pilot's licence and eventually decided that I needed a career change and here I am now in the process of becoming a commercial airline pilot. I have just recently completed all the 14 theoretical exams for the ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot's Licence) and I am now in Florida for a few weeks building hours and getting multi-engine experience. When I get back to Ireland, I will complete more training and exams and hope to be finished everything sometime before Christmas. It is hard work but hopefully it will pay off in the end.

Unfortunately, I will miss the reunion but hope to catch up with others when I get home. I am not married nor do I have any children (otherwise I would surely not be able to train to be a pilot!!!).

Hope all is well at the school and look forward to reading more about everyone in my class.

Best wishes to all. [May '06]

Carol Byrne: I think it's absolutely fantastic to see the website up and running. It's great to read what's happening at the school and also what people have been up to for the past 22 years! Talk about making you feel old.

For me, most of those years have been spent overseas (sorry Mam and Dad). After leaving Laurence's, I went to Waterford Regional (now Waterford Institute of Technology WIT) and got a degree in Business Studies. Not wasting any time after that, I moved to London, where I eventually got my Management Accounting qualification.

With that tucked under my belt, I decided it was time to go travelling for a year (the usual places: USA , New Zealand , Australia , Malaysia and Thailand ). What a fantastic experience! Would definitely recommend it to anyone still thinking of doing it – whatever your age.

Eventually, after 13 years and working as a management accountant for various companies including Time Magazine and MGM Home Entertainment, I finally decided to say goodbye to London and move to Sydney . I've been here now for nearly 4 years and absolutely love it (I even became an Aussie citizen last year!). The lifestyle is much more laid back and relaxed and the great weather means lots of outdoor activities and generally pretty happy people. Plus, working for the national airline Qantas, means I get to go home every year and have the opportunity to travel lots, which I love.

I look forward to staying in touch and will hopefully catch up with some people the next time I'm back in Dublin (perhaps mid 2007).

Am happy to be on the school’s mailing list and would love to hear from fellow past pupils living in Sydney .

All the best. [Dec. 2006]

Mandy Byrne: I am living in Carlow, married to Gerry. We have two children: Cathal (5) and Cariosa (18 months). I am working in St. Catherine's Social Services Centre as an Early Years Educator. [Dec 05]

Lorraine Dowling (nee Hammond): After leaving school I went to work and live in Australia for a year. Returning I worked for nearly twenty years in the same job(!!), I have changed job and am now working full time in UCD. I am living locally in Ballybrack with my son. I would love to get in contact with the rest of the gang in my year!! [Nov. 2005]

David Farrell: What a fantastic idea. My God! has it been 21 years? I will definitely make the trip over for this, I barely recognise myself, let alone anyone else!

I've been working as an Architect in London for 17 years. I have been married to my wife Lucy for 10 years, have twin boys, Luke and Aidan aged 3 AND have another set of twins arriving in August. Who says lightning doesn't strike twice.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in May.

Regards [Feb 2006]

Fiona Keane: After I left school, I did a secretarial course in Haddington Road . I worked for several companies before my marriage to Ken in 1991. We have three children, Leanne (14), Kevin (12) and Jill (8). I've only really kept in touch with Sandy O'Driscoll who was a bridesmaid at our wedding!

In 1996, we moved to Inis Mór where we lived for four years. While out there I had a spinal fusion done, which took me permanently out of the work force, and made me a full time mum, which I love.

In 2000 we moved to Athenry, where we now live. I love the west of Ireland . I attended the reunion in May which was fabulous - WHY weren't the rest of you there?  I can't wait ‘til the next one, and will help out with phone calls etc.

We had hoped to move back to Dublin this year, but it was not to be.

Keep up the good work, everyone, love to hear from anyone who would like to get in touch!! [Sept. ‘06]

Brian Kelly: I must say I was quite glad to see that there were no photos of me here as I looked back then -- and then I saw me! Oh well.

When I left St Laurence's in '85 I spent a year in Dun Laoghaire College of Art before realising that a life of drawing straight lines was not for me and headed off to New York to study audio production.

Upon returning to Ireland I initially worked as a live sound engineer (among other jobs), before establishing my own recording studio One Lazy Ear in 1996. After 6 years of producing music in a basement with no natural daylight, I moved to Barcelona to top-up on some much need natural vitamin D. I then spent some time the UK undertaking a Masters in Post Production for films. Since then I have been living in London where I have worked for the BBC and The Discovery Channel. I am now the Creative Director for a music consulting company based in central London .

I am still in touch with a couple of people from my class and hopefully I will be able to make the next class reunion.

I'd like to pay my respects to one particularly inspirational teacher, Gerry Murtagh. [March ‘08]

Fergal Kelly: After leaving St Laurence’s I went to Trinity and got a degree in Engineering.  I moved to England (got a masters) and was working in mobile communications (that little phone in your pocket).  I later moved to California, Italy and Spain and finally back to Dublin .  Or finally I thought, as two years ago I had the opportunity to move back to Spain and so now I live between Madrid (the office) and San Pedro de Alcantara (the beach).  I am married to Susan and we have two boys.

I am delighted to see the updates on-line and to read of the successes of my many dear friends!  Well done to Bro. Jim for the effort!!! [May ‘06]

Bernard McGuinness: while working and being bored at the time, I put my name into Google and there it was and here we are. I think it`s a great idea. It brought back a lot of memories for me, good and bad. It`s true, when you get older you get wiser.

I am married and living for the past 17 years in Basel, Switzerland. My wife, Astrid, is Swiss and I have three sons: Benjamin is 16 years old, Julien is 13 years old and the smallest , Luke is 6 years old.

I work for a Swiss facade building company. I sit 8 hours each day behind my computer, programming machines. My most notable piece of work to date, is the Swiss re tower(gerkhin) in London. The saddest part is, that Gary Madden and Bernard Masterson are no longer with us. I never saw them again since the schooldays.

I will keep in touch with the board and hope others will get in contact.

P.S. It`s not often that I get the chance to speak in English and I have lost a lot of spellings. So if you see a false spelling , sorry. I speak here only German. [Jan 2006]

Jennifer Mohan: I left St Laurence's in '85 and am still in touch with many of my classmates...most of them still recognisable!

I still live in Bray. I have had some different jobs. I did a secreterial course when I finished my Leaving Cert. After that I worked for Nixdorf Computers and then I managed a few Four Star Pizza outlets. I am now working in the greeting card and gift industry, selling direct to retail. I am the purchasing and warehouse manager for IEL and more recently I am working as sales rep.

As I said before, I bump into many school friends and the question everyone asks is "When are we going to have a class reunion?" So, who is going to take the bull by the horns and orgainise it?? A challenge I give to you all!!! [Dec. 2005]

John O'Mahony: I have been living in Limerick since 1999. After graduating from College I went to work in the UK for a few years and then decided to go back to college for my PhD. For some last minute unknown reason I went to Australia for my PhD (Brisbane), which was a good thing, as I met my wife there, Sunghwa. We did a short spell in Pennsylvania together before returning to Ireland where we have been ever since.

Life is pretty good. I am working as a technical manager for a Limerick based company and Sunghwa is working for a pharmaceutical company in Ennis.

Please pass on my regards to all the teachers and staff at the college and do please put me on the schools mailing list. [Nov. 2005]

Colin Swan: This web site is a great idea, it really is strange to read the names and remember faces of our class.

After school I went to the College of Marketing and then onto DCU for a Business Degree. Since DCU I went to Australia for a year and then to San Francisco and Boston . I am currently in San Francisco with Jodie my Canadian wife.

Two other class mates live in the bay area that I know of, Paul Turner and recently Ronan McNamara. We all work for software companies. Prior to working with software companies I ran a marketing and sales company for Investment Managers.

Jim and the Brothers are doing a great job. I read St. Laurence was ranked #2 in Ireland , nice job and congratulations.

I heard about a reunion but can’t make it over. I keep in contact with some people from my class but would like to keep in contact with more.

All the best. [May ‘06]

Ricky Treacy: Have just had that phone call from Jennifer Mohan. Reunion is a great idea. Will be making the effort to get there. I have been working in Stewarts Hospital with people with learning disabilities for the past 20 years. I am married to Lorraine, possibly the only person who can put up with me. We have three great children Joshua 10, Isaac 8 and Zimira 5. Moved to Celbridge in 1991 and so have had little contact with my former class mates. I am still in St John ambulance and do quiet a lot of voluntary work in the pre-hospital emergency field. I look forward to seeing some old friends May. [March '06]
