On September the 14th, the entire school walked to the Church of the Apostles to celebrate Mass for the beginning of the school year. It was the feast of the Triumph of the Cross. In his homily Fr. Neville asked if a letter were placed in each quadrant of the cross what word would it spell? One student replied ‘LORD’ but Fr. Neville didn’t change what he already prepared! |
|
| |
|
L : God so loved the world that he sent His Son so that humanity won’t lose its way.
O : Jesus was obedient through suffering on the cross.
V : God did not let death win but gave victory through the resurrection.
E : Christians are called to follow Jesus and be experts in caring for other people.

At the end of the Eucharist, the school prefects were inducted by the school principal Mr. Michael Redmond and received their badges. |

The blessing of a home is a short moment of prayer that helps us understand that God is ‘at home’ with us and offers his protection to us.
This year the Parents Association and Fr. Neville O’ Donohue, Chaplain are offering families the possibility of a home blessing at the beginning of the school year.
For further information contact Fr. Neville at 275 1030.

GREEN SCHOOLS |

St. Laurence College is “Going Green”.
Over the current school year we are attempting to achieve “An Taisce Green Flag School”.
We have set up Paper and Cans Only Bins at various places around the school. Please only place paper and cans in these, similar to your green bins at home. Put all other rubbish into the correct bins….please.
We have also started the collection of printer cartridges and old mobile phones. The collection bins for this RECYCOOL scheme will be with us shortly. Please bring in these items and place them in a collection box in the library. This scheme will generate money for Childline and St. Laurence College.
There will also be a Committee set up and if you want to join leave your name with your geography teacher, tutor or Ms. Mulholland.

TRANSITION YEAR NEWS
|
|
| |
Kilary Adventure Centre
Forty-five students and their teachers went to Kilary Adventure Centre at the beginning of the term.
Dawn had barely broken when they headed off by bus and train for the wild open spaces of Mayo. For these days they took part in orienteering, canoeing, abseiling and laser combat operations. A fantastic time was had by all. Many thanks to their teachers: Mr. Devine, Mr. Rowe, Ms. Bennett and Ms. Coughlan. |

Transition Year Musical
This year our own Transition year students will take to the stage once more. After last year's successful staging of OLIVER in collaboration with St Brendan’s College Bray, this year the same partnership will produce Guys and Dolls. Auditions and rehearsals will begin next week. |
