D.E.A.R and Numeracy Ninjas

Mar 07, 2017 by

Our monthly D.E.A.R are continuing in 2017 with time to drop everything and read comics, novels, newspapers and a wide range of non-fiction books from the school library and reading room.

While…. in numeracy news…. First Year Maths classes have started the Numeracy Ninja challenge.  Click the link for the free resources.

This challenge takes place twice a week at the start of maths class and the students have only 10 minutes to complete 30 maths problems. The first 20 questions are mental maths and the remaining problems are solved using stealth-like calculator skills.

The silent-but deadly-challenge is corrected then and points equal your ninja belt status. The goal of a higher belt in the following challenge is a clear focus for the students as Master Ninja Coffey has pitted his clan of skillful numeracy ninjas against the houses of Barnes and Hyland. Lets hope there won’t be slaughter as the challenge continues into the next term.
