The Charming Chopper

Mar 07, 2017 by

Two Second Year students organised a super presentation on snakes on the Friday before mid-term break in A4.  They began weeks earlier by visiting the Dun Laoghaire Lexicon to borrow books about snakes and reptiles. Back in A4 after exploring the books a ‘massive’ mind map of the all the information for the presentation was created. The information was then displayed on a giant Tarsia - customized puzzle. All we needed then was a real live snake and some visitors to give the presentation to. So one of the student brought in their own snake, the shy but charming Chopper and Catherine Wynne (HSCL St. Cholmcille National School Ballybrack) supplied the live food….. I mean the pupils…. who concentrated hard putting the Tarsia puzzle together before Chopper woke up from a little snooze in his hiding place to meet and greet and caress everyone who was brave enough!

Chopper is a ball python and he is a fascinating creature. He is much loved by his owner and well cared for. The presentation continued with a questions and answers session about the day to day care of snakes as pets.

We all had a super morning and Chopper is welcome back anytime….. except the day he gets his rat for dinner!

A big thank to from the two lads for everyone involved!
