In May 2011, the Parents Association re- named itself the Parents Council. By virtue of the fact that a parent/ guardian has a child attending St Laurence College automatically entitles the parent/ guardian to membership of this council.
The Parents’ Executive Committee is a representative group of parents with children in the school), who meet up once a month( first Wednesday) to discuss school issues on behalf of the Parents’ Council. You can view the Parents’ Council Constitution below.
We also run fundraising events for the school, such as Race Nights, Quiz Nights and currently a team of women from the Parents Association, are taking part in the Dublin Ladies Mini Marathon in June.
The school Principal, Mr. Carr, and the Home/School/ Community Liaison person, Ms. Kelly, attend the monthly meeting with the parents. There we are informed of what goes on in the school from month to month. We also have an input on school policies and other issues that happen in the school that effect our children. It really gives us as parents, a better view of the day-to-day running of the school and the important work that is done by all who work in the school.
From a parent’s point of view, it’s great to be up-to-date with the happenings in the school and a great chance to meet other parents. Although we discuss serious issues we have a lot of fun too. The meetings really help to improve the teacher-pupil-parent relationship.
From time to time we will be adding information regarding school issues and activities. Please feel free to email us on any issues: parents@stlaurencecollege.com
Yours sincerely,
The Parents’ Committee
